Our Story

1694 days prior to July 8th, 2023, we had our second date at Johnny’s Cafe. We sat in the bar, talking for hours. We’d matched on Tinder a couple of weeks earlier, but it wasn’t the first time we met. That was 2009. In 2009, I wandered into the record store Justin worked at. I picked up a reissue of Swell Maps’ “Jane from Occupied Europe” and walked to the counter. I nervously shared with Justin that I was, as far as I knew, the last person to cut Swell Maps co-founder, Nikki Sudden’s hair before he passed away a few years prior. Justin didn’t care at all. Not one bit. I mentioned our initial 2009 run-in in an early Tinder message and Justin appreciated my candor. I found out later I had chosen the record from the employee selections rack—his pick. What we’re celebrating now is a victory for me. I impressed Aloof Record Store Guy so much that he proposed marriage.

Weddingwire.com says I need to include some standard particulars about us for those who may not know one of us. So, here it is. At the time of our reception, I will be 37 and Justin will be 46. Why are we doing all this you ask? This whole big ol wedding? Well I love OPULENCE and DECADENCE and JUBILATION and MERRYMAKING and honestly in a less bawdy way, so does Justin. And, I’ve never been married before. I am a hair salon owner, Justin is in construction. He has a 14 year old son, Elliot, I will soon have a 14 year old stepson, Elliot.

The first time we saw live pro wrestling together was January 20, 2019. We moved in together in May 2019. We went to Las Vegas together for the first time in September 2019. We bought our first, and likely last, home together November 2020. We seriously discussed the particulars of what a wedding and reception could look like in February 2022 at a Palm Springs steakhouse. I was proposed to in May 2022 at a Kansas City steakhouse. We’re excited for you to attend our July 2023 reception at an Omaha steakhouse.

Due to the pandemic woven through many of the above dates, meeting the far-flung individuals in one another’s life has happened at a much slower rate than what would be typical. We’re so excited to accelerate some of that during this reception, to spend time with one another’s loved ones. Justin O’Connor is a treasure. A blessing in my life and if you know him, like KNOW, know him, I’m sure yours too. To be loved by him has been one of the greatest privileges of my life. I’m so excited to share one big ol space with all those who love him too.
